Challakere town is taluk of Chitradurga is located in the Indian state of Karnataka. chitradurga is distance 30km from challakere.

 Bold rock hills and picturesque valleys. Huge towering boulders in unimaginable shapes. That is Chitradurga for you. This place is not known as the "Place of stone fort" (Kallina Kote) for nothing. The landscape looks much like a mischievous giant's playground - with boulders thrown around, forming awesome silhouettes against the sky. And that could be true! According to a story in the Epic Mahabharatha, a man-eating gaint named Hidimbasura did line here on the Chitradurga hill - a source of terror to everyone around. And then Pandavas came here with their mother Kunti in the course of their exile and Bhima had a duel with Hidimba. Hidimba was slain by Bhima and peace returned to the area. These amazing boulders could well be part of the arsenal used during that duel! Seriously though, these boulders and the major part of the city rests on belong to the oldest rock formation.

  The challakere is also a place of the beautiful temple of Lord Veerabhadra Swamy. The Jaathre of the lord Veerabhadra Swamy occurs every year at the end of April. The turnout for the Jaathre is huge. Atmanand a great saint and share broker his diversified attitude is very much helpful to the society.

The famous Datta Mandir is located in Tyagaraja Nagar, and traditional practices of Datta Sampradaya, including miracles, can be seen at this temple. There is an audumbara tree which has branched into three segments symbolising datta avatar. The tree is full of fruits, which normally attract many insects, but these are not seen in this tree. A great saint, Srinivasa Datta Yogishwar, who lived for about 112 years, like an avadootha. You can see his samadhi in this mandir. Now the mandir is run by Dr. G.S.Govindadas, a well known ayurvedic practioner. There is a sacred well in front of the datta idol. In the surrounding areas the water table is 150 to 200 ft (61 m) down, but the 'sacred Ganga' in this well is at 6 ft (1.8 m). and the level remains constant throughout the year. There are legends that, the well known avadooth Satupasi of Dodderi (previously called Mallanna) also attained datta sakshatkara in this sacred place. Datta mandir has become a shelter for wellknown saints and vidwans. It encourages people in both spiritual and social development. The tiny place has a attracted many saints from all over the country. Datta Jayanthi, Gurupurnima, Gurupadyami are the major celebrations. A sacred place one must visit and get the blessings of lord dattatreya.

Ajjan Gudi is well known for its beautiful location beside the Ajjana Kere, which is the main water source for surrounding wells and drinking water for challakere.

Chellakere is also famous for its Challekere temple, at Bellary Road. Challakeramma Jathre is conducted once every five years. in this Jathra more than 15000 people will participate to get blessings of Challakeramma.

ನಾಯಕನಹಟ್ಟಿ ಶ್ರೀಗುರು ತಿಪ್ಪೇರುದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ

    ಚಿತ್ರದುರ್ಗ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಚಳ್ಳಕೆರೆ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ನಾಯಕನಹಟ್ಟಿ ತಿಪ್ಪೇರುದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಪುಣ್ಯಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವು ರಾಜ್ಯದ್ಯಾಂತ ಮನೆಮಾತಾಗಿರುವ ಮಹಾಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವಾಗಿದೆ. ಚಳ್ಳಕೆರೆ ನಗರದಿಂದ ಸುಮಾರು 16 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಈ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವು ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯೂ ಹೊಂದಿದೆ.

ನಾಯಕನಹಟ್ಟಿ ತಿಪ್ಪೇರುದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಜಾತ್ರೆ:

ಚಳ್ಳಕೆರೆ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕು ನಾಯಕನಹಟ್ಟಿ ಕಂದಾಯ ಹೋಬಳಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಈ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿವರ್ಷ ಫಾಲ್ಗುಣ ಮಾಸ ಬಹುಳದ ಚಿತ್ತ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರದಂದು ಗುರುತಿಪ್ಪೇರುದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಜಾತ್ರಾ ರಥೋತ್ಸವವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ಅತ್ಯಂತ್ಯ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಜಾತ್ರೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು. ನಾಯಕನಹಟ್ಟಿ ಜಾತ್ರೆಯು ಹಿಂದೂ-ಮುಸಲ್ಮಾನರ ಭಾವೈಕ್ಯತೆಯ ದ್ಯೋತಕವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಶಕ್ತಿಯಾದ ಗುರು ತಿಪ್ಪೇರುದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿಯನ್ನು “ಶ್ರೀ ಗುರು ತಿಪ್ಪೇರುದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿ” ಎಂತಲೂ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹಿಂದೆ ಪಂಚಗಣಾಧೀಶ್ವರರೆಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗಿರುವ ಕೋಲುಶಾಂತೇಶ, ಕೆಂಪಯ್ಯ, ಚೆನ್ನಪ್ಪಯ್ಯ, ಚನ್ನಬಸವೇಶ್ವರ ಹಾಗೂ ತಿಪ್ಪೇಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ವಿವಿಧ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಚರಿಸಿ ಜನಜಾಗೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಮೂಡಿಸಿದ್ದರು ಎನ್ನಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಐವರಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಗುರು ತಿಪ್ಪೇರುದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರು ನಿಜಗಲ್ಲು-ರಾಯದುರ್ಗ ಕಡೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಚರಿಸುವ ಸಂಧರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಫಣಿಯಪ್ಪ ಎಂಬ ಭಕ್ತನ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾರುಹೋಗಿ, ಅವರನ್ನು ತನ್ನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕರೆತರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿಯ ಹಳ್ಳಿಜನರ ಬಡತನದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅರಿತ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವು ಕೆರೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕೂಲಿಕಾರರಿಗೆ ದಿನದ ಕೂಲಿಯನ್ನು “ಮಾಡಿದಷ್ಟು ನೀಡು ಭಿಕ್ಷೆ” ಎಂಬ ಮಂತ್ರಶಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು ಎಂಬ ದಂತಕಥೆಯು ಇದೆ.

 ಪವಾಡ ಪುರುಷರಾಗಿದ್ದರೆಂದು ನಂಬಲಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಗುರು ತಿಪ್ಪೇರುದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರು ಯಾವ ಸ್ಥಳದವರು? ಯಾವ ಜಾತಿಯವರು? ಎಂಬ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಈಗಲೂ ವಿವಾದಗಳಿವೆ. ಇವರು ವೀರಶೈವರೆಂದು ಕೆಲವರು ನಂಬಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇವರು ಬೇಡ ಜನಾಂಗದವರು ಇದ್ದಿರಬಹುದೆಂದು ಕೆಲವರ ವಾದ. ಒಂದು ದಿನ ನಾಯಕನಹಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಬಂದ ತಿಪ್ಪೇಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರು ಅದೇ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಮಾರಮ್ಮನ ಗುಡಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಒಂದೆರಡು ದಿನ ತಂಗಲು ಸ್ಥಳಾವಕಾಶ ನೀಡಲು ಮಾರಮ್ಮದೇವಿಯ ಅಪ್ಪಣೆ ಪಡೆದರೆಂದೂ, ಮಾರಮ್ಮ ಬದಲು ಹಳ್ಳಿಗಳಿಗೆ ತಿರುಗಾಡಿ ಬರಲು ಹೋದಾಗ ಗುಡಿಯ ತುಂಬಾ ತಿಪ್ಪೇಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರ ಜೋಳಿಗೆ-ಬೆತ್ತಗಳು ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು, ಇದನ್ನು ಕಂಡ ಮಾರಮ್ಮ ಗುಡಿಯನ್ನು ತಿಪ್ಪೇಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರಿಗೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಟ್ಟು ವಡ್ನಹಳ್ಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ನೆಲೆಸಿದಳೆಂದು ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಜನರು ಕಥೆ ಹೇಳುವುದಿದೆ. ಈಗ ಅದೇ ಗುಡಿ “ಶ್ರೀ ಗುರು ತಿಪ್ಪೇಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ಒಳಮಠ”. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಪ್ಪೇಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರನ್ನು ಲಿಂಗರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಟಾಪಿಸಿ ಆರಾಧಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

 ಹೊರಮಠ ಹಾಗೂ ಒಳಮಠ:

ನಾಯಕನಹಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಗುರು ತಿಪ್ಪೇರುದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿಗೆ ಸಂಭಂಧಿಸಿದ ಎರಡು ಆರಾಧನಾ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊರಮಠ ಹಾಗೂ ಒಳಮಠ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಶ್ರೀ ತಿಪ್ಪೇಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಜೀವಿತಾವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಸ್ಥಳವು ಊರೊಳಗಿದ್ದು, ಅದನ್ನು ಒಳಮಠವೆಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಜೀವಂತ ಸಮಾಧಿ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಸ್ಥಳವು ಊರಿಂದ ಹೊರಗಡೆ ಚಿಕ್ಕಕೆರೆ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಇದ್ದು, ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊರಮಠ ಎನ್ನುವರು. ಒಳಮಠದ ಗೋಪುರವು 50 ಅಡಿ ಎತ್ತರವಿದ್ದು, ಅತ್ಯಾಕರ್ಷಕವಾಗಿದೆ. ಒಳಮಠದ ಮುಂದೆ ಜಾತ್ರೆ ಸಂಧರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೃಹತ್ತಾದ ಅಗ್ನಿಕುಂಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಣಕೊಬ್ಬರಿಯ ಹೋಳುಗಳ ರಾಶಿಯನ್ನು ಸುಡುವುದು ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ವಿಶೇಷ ಆಚರಣೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಆಚರಣೆಯ ಹಿಂದೆ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಕತೆಯೇ ಇದೆ. ತಿಪ್ಪೇಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರು ಮೊದಲಿಗೆ ರಾಯದುರ್ಗದಿಂದ ನಾಯಕನಹಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಬರುವಾಗ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಕತ್ತಲೆ ಆವರಿಸಿದ್ದು, ಫಣಿಯಪ್ಪನು ಒಣಕೊಬ್ಬರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೋಲುಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಸಿ ಬೆಂಕಿಯಿಂದ ಹೊತ್ತಿಸಿ, ಆ ಬೆಳಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಪ್ಪೇಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರನ್ನು ಹಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಕರೆತಂದನಂತೆ. ಆ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ತಿಪ್ಪೇರುದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಜಾತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಕ್ತರು ಒಣಕೊಬ್ಬರಿ ಸುಡುವ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯ ರೂಢಿಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಅದೇ ರೀತಿ ದುಂಡು ಮೆಣಸು ಎರಚುವ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ.

         ಹೊರಮಠವನ್ನು ಶ್ರೀ ತಿಪ್ಪೇರುದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ‘ಗದ್ದುಗೆ’ ಎಂದು, ಒಳಮಠವನ್ನು ಶ್ರೀ ತಿಪ್ಪೇಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ‘ಮಠ’ವೆಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಒಳಮಠಕ್ಕೆ ಶೈವರು ಪೂಜಾಧಿಕಾರವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರೆ, ಒಳಮಠದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ಸೋಮವಾರ ಪೂಜೆ ನಡೆಯುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊರಮಠಕ್ಕೆ ಜೀವಕಳೆ ಬರಬೇಕು ವಾಡಿಕೆಯಿದೆ! ನಾಯಕನಹಟ್ಟಿ ಜಾತ್ರೆಗೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಅನೇಕ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳಿಂದಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ಆಂಧ್ರಪ್ರದೇಶ, ತಮಿಳುನಾಡು ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಭಕ್ತಾದಿಗಳು ಸಾಗರೋಪಾದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಹತ್ತಾರು ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಿಂದ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ವಿಶೇಷ ಬಸ್ಸುಗಳ ಈ ಜಾತ್ರೆಗೆ ಹಗಲಿರುಳು ಸಂಚರಿಸುತ್ತವೆ.
